| Lightcest! Okay, don't kill me. Please. Don't. I actually got kind of attached to this pairing (I still love Alec/Magnus way more, though) when I met someone on FF.Net (Gema227? You on here?) who shipped it and wrote some pretty awesome fics for it. It's actually really plausible, but I won't ruin all of the evidence with my clumsy wording - I quote from her profile: | Quote: | Okay, so alot of people have been asking and I figured that I should put something about it up in my profile because, well, it's getting boring typing the same response to PMs over and over again. So, here it is- How I Rationalize Alec/Isabelle.So, think about it. Alec and Izzy grew up together completely quarantined from the outside world. From what we've read in the books, Isabelle and Alec have had no intimate contact with mundanes until Clary comes along and both siblings have very little knowledge of how the mundane society works. (Alec didn't know what the phrase 'Shotgun" meant.) The sexual attraction in the relationship would mainly be on Isabelle's part, considering that, as she matured, she had no other people to channel her feelings towards except Alec and Jace and, because she didn't know how taboo a relationship like that would be, she probably thought that is was completely normal to have those kind of feelings towards her brothers. She probably had crushes on various Downworlders, but her parents taught her that Downworlders aren't on the same level as ShadowHunters, so any feelings she would have for them would be almost immediately smothered. Also, It seems to me that Hodge pretty much raised Alec, Isabelle, and Jace because Maryse and Robert seem to always have been in Idris. Now, while Hodge does seem to be ever the protective guardian, do you really think that the Lightwoods (and Jace) would go to him about anything really personal? No, he's old, you don't share that kind of information with old people. They would have gone to each other, creating a sense of trust and a really strong bond between all three of them. Alec and Isabelle probably learned from a young age that Jace wasn't a trustworthy person, or else Alec probably would have come out to him by now (But wouldn't have, of course, mentioned that he's in love with him.) So that leaves no one else for them to turn to for guidance and advice than each other. They seem relatively close in age, Isabelle is 16-ish and Alec can't be much older or CC would have said something about it in his description, so I'm assuming that he's around 17/18.All the Shadowhunters go through a fair amount of trauma growing up. I mean, honestly, who can function normally when they've been trained to kill since they were kids?, so with, again thier parents always being gone and Hodge being old, A, I and J would have to lean on each other for support. Once you've fought a demon with someone, something tell me that you're sure that they've got your back. Jace seems to almost ostracize the Lightwood siblings from him sometimes. They're close, but not as close as CC describes A and I to be. Alec and Jace may be parabatai, but there isn't a whole lot of bonding going on between them in the book, where we have Isabelle stating that she would have no problem kissing Alec. ( I know, I know, I'm screwing around with cannon evidence but...oh well.)Bottom line: No outside contact + trauma+ relying on each other from protection, guidance and support = a possibly-incestuous relationship between Alec and Isabelle. |
Does anyone feel a bit of 'me likes?' I know I do. I mean, it would probably never actually happen in the books, and Alec/Magnus is just more favorable to me, but still...
I'm tired. I'll add on to that later with my evidence... but for now, discuss. _________________ "And that there." Magnus said, looking across the room at Will. "The boy with the angry looks and the eyes like twilight in hell. That's Will?" "That is unfortunately Will," Tessa acknowledged. -The Clockwork Angel

ZOMG LOKI! *tackleglompscuddlesHAI* I'm so happy I found this thread! And you quote that crazy little soliloqy from my ff.net profile too! Yay! So, yuss, A/I, my OTP, what do I have to say about thee? Well, since I'm fluent in barely-there subtext, of course this is the very first pairing that I hit the roof about. I like cracktastic pairings, what can I say? I vaguely shipped it while reading CoB after my friend said that Jim Sturgess would make a really good Alec and Leighton Meester would be good as Isabelle. I adore both those actors, so I kinda was like 'A/I could work." But *then* I read CoA and I read the part in the Seelie Court where Isabelle's all "Kissing my brother? Sure, no problem." and I was like "ZOMGINCEST!!!oneone!!!" and that's how I started it. I can understand how not alot of people are fond of it because, y'know, Alec is gay and all. But I have an explanation for that as well. It's called being a 5 on the Kinsey Scale. Look it up. Interesting stuff. So, that's all I have to say about that. Everything else would be in the quote up there. *points up* So..yeah. And thanks again for making this thread, Loki!

Hmm. I can totally respect this as a couple, and stuff, but I would never ship it because I don't see any passion behind it. Its like a Simon Clary sort of relationship, that like, nice trustworthy safe crap. XD. Sorry, I'm not a fan of those. In any book I read, I just don't appreciate them. I really don't like it. I always want the bad ass, or like, the guy with the edge, the complete opposite of "We've known each other for a really long time and blah blah trust and safe and yeah". In real life, I totally support those relationships, but when it comes down to a choice, never. You say that Isabelle would offer the spice, but I don't see that when you back it up by saying "nobody to turn to except themselves". lol. Also, I like to think of them as a perfect trio. Not necesarily a separate couple. But I can totally see what you're saying. I'm just slihgtly miffed because people are going "OMG. Clary and Jace related? That's disgusting." And I am trying to back up their relationship by saying that they DIDN'T grow up together. XD. And then there are people supporting Alec and Isabelle. XD. I could see them as a couple, I just wouldn't really ship them. XD. Not when it comes down to other choices such as Magnus, Jace, other fearie boyz, XDDDDD.

I can totally see where you're coming from. It is a "safe" pairing in the sense that they're both very comfortable with each other and there's no variable in the relationship. But, seeing as Isabelle can probably land any boy she wants (okay, maybe not Jace, but that's a different story. xD), maybe what that's what she would want. Safe, stable, something she can rely on. I mean, we don't know all that much about her character and her relationship with Downworlders, other Shadowhunters, ect. but what from CC has given us, Isabelle seems slightly loose, like she goes through alot of boys quickly. And when you have a reputation like that, guys tend not to stick around long, at least from what I've seen. So, maybe safe is what she's looking for. And I don't get that "OMG Morgencest is creppy cuz they're related!!!". It's not like they made a conscience choice to fall in love with each other while knowing that they were brother and sister. I still hold to the firm belief that, in CoG, Valentine's going to be all "Suprise, I lied! You guys can date now!" (though, y'know, not phrased like that, obviously.) and then Jace and Clary will be free to go about their buisness as a couple. Also, for the record, I do ship Malec/Algnus/MxA and I think that it's the best canon pairing CC has given us. I mean, the sheer amount of angst in that couple is staggering....

I'm not quite sure why I like Alec/Isabelle. It's just something I find... appealing for some reason. Maybe it's the unusual element of a "safe" incestuous relationship, or the leftover "GAAAAAAAAAHHH, INCEST!!!oneone!!!" (hehe, I like that oneoneone thing) from my OPT, Jace/Clary. And like Gemma said, Isabelle is kind of "loose," and Alec is so withdrawn that I can't see him going out and meeting anyone, soooo... just makes sense. Other than the whole Magnus thing, but lots of people are--can't think of the right word--polygamous, except not married. Except this is bi-sexual-almost-polygamy. If that made any sense.

I completly agree with that. Including the MxA part. IxA is really cute, but MxA is luff.
Says the person who loves Chairman MeowxChurch.
But still. Isabelle and Alec are sweet together, and make for awesometacular fanfiction.
Magnus is better for Alec though, x100.
And Church and Chairman Meow are adorable, even if it's off topic and in the wrong, uh, thingy.
You know, I thought that there would be more flying objects here. Hmmm...
