Is anyone here doing NaNo this year?

Anyway, think you're going to do it this year? Got any plot ideas floating around? Creating your characters already, or putting it off? Wishing it would start, wishing you had more time?

I am certainly doing NaNo this year. I tried for the first time last year and failed in an epic fashion with only 42k or something like that, but I had a blast anyway and I'm going to try again.
I have loads of ideas - I can't pick which one to choose from. But I'm super excited. I'm already picking gems off the "overheard lines" thread and saving them up.

I'm thinking I might create a new account for this year. Dude, I haven't even been 'Loki' for a year yet... xD Well, it's getting close.

Oh, yeah, one more thing...

Ya man, I'm totally going for it this year. I was really against it but last Saturday this idea just flew in and I had to write it. So I decided if I'm gonna write it anyways why not make it a challenge? So yeah, I want it to start. I don't want to wait another month. I want it now! >.<

I really can't decide whether I want it NOW or if I'd rather wait to sort things out. xD From what you're saying I assume this is your first year?

I've narrowed it down to two, actually, both with highly similar plots - it's just a choice of what types of supernatural species I want to throw in. It's like a little recipe. x3 At first I was thinking vampires with a pinch of werewolves, but now I'm thinking about making up my own species - kind of like what CC did with the Nephilim. Except they're not like the Nephilim. Not even remotely. o.o

Yeah, it's my first year. My friend did it last year so I got every single play by play basically. XD. And besides, I didn't actually start writting anythign until like.... maybe april.

Geez. This is basically the only reason why I kinda don't like my idea. You can't summarize.... but this is what I wrote to my friend.

Basically, and yes, this crosses in with religion. But only slightly.Basically, when you are baptized, all of your sins are gone. So in Russian school a girl asked "why don't they baptize you when you yourself goes to god" And the priest replied, because when you are baptized you get your own guardian angel who watches over you. So, imagine that you can see this angel, talk to them. Your own specialized angel who is meant to look after you and sees that you don't die. And when you die, they take your soul and bring you up to the heavens where you meet a daemon and you get tried. The daemon names all the bad things you've done and your angel is like your lawyer. He defends you, calls out when the daemon is lying and tries to get you into heaven. Because if he can get you into heaven than he basically gets like... a promotion. XD. So that's my religion.
And that's where we begin.
And this is where we break off from religion. Angels are not just created. In my story, you are a human and when you die you have the potential to become an angel but you can never go back to human. But most don't do it. Because to be an angel is basically to care for and look after and love humans. And most people don't really care about others. And they want another chance at life. And they don't want to serve god. But some do. And back in the Roman and Greek times God got a lot of angels and that was his like, army of angels basically.

So your angel is invisible to you and everyone else [as are the daemons]
and they fly behind you, sometimes above you, and look after you. Now,
if someone accidentally bumps into them, they'll just go right through
them. Angels have no physical bound to the ground. Nothing can touch
them and they can't touch anything either. But they have strange mystical angel powers that can influence solid objects. If you were
walking in the middle of the road and a car was about to run you over
the angel would use said powers and the car wouldn't hit you. So they
can move shit at will without touching them. and the only way they can
talk to you is through your dreams. When you are asleep you are open to
that world.

So this angel gets assigned to this girl. And he basically lies low like a normal angel for a long time. But when she's 16 or something, she gets hit by a car or gets into an accident. And the angel was being stupid and reckless and didn't save her. Now something happened in the impact of the car hitting her. She goes into a comma and so the impact attracts the attention of the devil and I dunno his intentions yet but he sends out some daemons and they visit her in her comma [and a comma is like you when you are asleep and dreaming = vulnerable to these kinds of forces] and try to convert her and make her evil. The angel comes and tries to fight them off. And she can see it all. So in the impact, just like it caught the attention of the devil it changed her and likewise her angel.

So now...
basically.. the angel like... gets more physical and less spirit-y. Meaning things can't pass through him anymore and he can't use weird angel powers any more. And he grows visible to her. She can see him. And talk to him. And yeah. And... I guess.... she... falls for him? I guess that's what I want but I don't want to say that because likewise
it wound so cliche like and stuff.

But eventually she dies in an accident or something and he takes her up and he's distressed because the [this is like half way through or maybe more than] daemons did get to her at some point and she had a bad record. So the trial commences and you can tell things are bad and stuff. And the daemons are like "haha! We got this girl!" cause she did a bunch of really bad things. And the angel i guess falls for her too and so he really really doesn't want her to go to hell. And so he's like "No! You can't take her!" And I guess basically he starts like... crying? But see, this is strange. Because when you become an angel you stop possessing human emotions. You kinda do sorta become devoid of any emotion. You can still feel sadness and hatred. But you don't really love. So this is like.... really fucking weird. But this goes back to the physicality. The more physical he grows the more human emotion he gets back. So yeah, when an angel cries its like, insane so Jehovah [aka god] says "Enough Adam. This one stays with me." [and Adam is the devil and I'll let you figure that out] SO I guess she like... also becomes an angel. And they are together. and then I guess a Battle would break out.

The reason why I can put this out there and not be afraid that someone will steal it is because i highly doubt anyone could write this except for me. XD. Cause what I wrote here is just focusing on the relationship between the angel and the girl but in the story there is going to be more relationships. Like the relationship the angel shares with Jehovah and the relationship between God and Adam. That sorta thing.

So what about yours?

I'm thinking about it for this year. Last year... Come the start, I had no ideas at all, and knew I wouldn't get close. But this year, I've got two to choose from that are semi-figured out that have been bumping around in my head for awhile. Keeping to a consistent time schedule will be hard, I'm a notorious procrastinator, but I'd at least like to try.

Well, I picked plot B. So, basically, thousands of years ago, a demonic race was created. A man became so purely heartbroken when his family was killed that he tried to tear his own heart out - his soul came out instead. The man discovered that he no longer felt his pain, and sought to bring others to extract their souls as well. So, eventually, the guy creates this immortal, soul-less super-race whose ultimate goal is to preserve the line. Over time, they learn to take the souls of other humans.

A thousand years later, in early Ireland, a young girl's dreams are crushed. She runs out of her town and into the wilderness in a moment of blind grief, and lucky her - someone thought they were doing her a favor when they saw her hurting soul, so they nabbed it.

In present-day, the same girl whose life was taken from her is now assigned to the task of taking the soul of another girl - much like her. How can she steal the life someone else away after hers was so cruelly ended?

Yeah, I'm still working on it. I just figured it out today.

I like your plot. x3 I love those kinds of 'guardian angel' ideas.

To write 50 000 words in 30 days you basically have to write 1,666 words every day. I think. >.< I might be wrong. I did the calculatons in my head.

I am worried. See, it's not that I'm a quitter, it's just that I lose interest easily and I stop carring. So I'm afraid I'm gonna quit cause I just won't care anymore.

But like I said, even if I don't finish on time I still really want to write this.

Your plot sounds pretty nifty. That's kinda cool. I like it.

This is my first time doing NaNo [my friend recommended it to me, and told me if I don't complete it then she won't buy me a NaNo shirt for my birthday ]

Anyway, my plot is really shallow and dumb sounding compared to yours (BY THE WAY Alaska I konw exactly what you mean about just stopping because you don't care and kind of lose your inspiration--it happens with nearly all of my stories). Basically I was inspired by the "Opening Lines" thread on NaNo.com, and chose this one:

Hell just froze over. Literally.

So it got into my head this idea about this guy who's in Hell and just kinda hanging out there, and then Hell freezes over and all its inhabitants are ushered into this kind of quarantine area by all the demons and everyone's all confused etc blah blah. Then whilst in this room/area/thing, the main character meets this dude who was a hired assassin and they start talking, and Assassin Man asks Main Character why he's in Hell, and then the rest of the story [with little Hell bits added here and there] is basically the guy telling his story. And it's there that I get kind of frustrated because I kind of want the story to have like a comedic kind of theme to it, you know? But then this guy telling his story is kind of...I dunno, boring and sad/depressing.

So if anyone's got ideas, perhaps? That'd help. I just got a brainwave just now, but who knows. I might not even try this story, it all depends on how it works out.

I actually like it. Its a nice idea. The only thing I don't like [and it doesn't really count because its just me, personally] is the whole "entire story being a flashback". I dunno. I'm just kinda turned off by those. The only one I've ever enjoyed is Wuthering Heights. It was a damn good book.

But I really like the concept. It's deffinitelly a good one. one way you can add a cemedic turn is by having a re-occuring theme. Like this guy on DeviantArt has some damn good material. He can write a story with a cemidic edge. http://deviantkupo.deviantart.com/

You can try doing it with like, one crazy guy. And every now and then he just reapears. Or have a saying that you keep saying.

Yeah, that's my main issue too, is that I don't want the whole thing to be his story. On NaNo.com they have this thread that's like, dares to put into your story, and a few of them are really cute/funny/fun so I'll probably do a couple of those.

And the fun has begun. Lol. I've been away for most of the day yeterday so I am only at 3 k. :/

3k isn't bad, actually. it's 1,667 words per day to make it.
I'm at 5,593. xD -working realllllly hard- I'm really trying to get ahead, because I always fall behind with the pressure from school.
I actually had to go get stitches this morning, so I lost a lot of writing time... -grumbles-
Now I'll have to include a scene where my MC gets stitches. 8D

w00t!!!! 50 079 as of tonight. So I am past 50k and still going. I've had to separate my story into a Part I and a Part II. And I have not even hit most of the vital scenes in Part I. XD. So I stil have a butt-load of stuff to write but whatever. I reached 50k on my first NaNo and I am Happy!!!

Nice! You passed me. I'm at 47.6 k and still going strong - another twenty pages or so, and I round off the novel at a nice, even 150 pages.
No stitches for my MC. I switched POVs halfway through. And somehow, my 509 year old character developed an intense hate of Shakespeare...?
My antagonist is officially creepy to the point of no return. 'Nuff said.

But I Feel like such an epic fail :-(. Everybody wrote so much . It's my first year doing it and I had fun but I epic failed with the sad amount of 37k. Stupid rehersals and school...... I'm definately going to finish it even though it won't get counted but now it's personal . I am definately doing this again next year. It was so much fun, just relaxing and writing what just came out of my head. Not having to worry about major plot editing. If only english class was that easy. . People were amazing, i felt my small amount of writing was amazing in my opinion. I feel happy with it . And now off to finish the HW that has been gaining dust under my bookcase... *Looks under bookcase.* Oh boy.... I'll be up all night!
