"But you're supposed to be in New York!" Isabelle exclaimed. "Jace said you'd changed your mind about coming. He said you wanted to stay with your mother!"
"Jace lied," Clary said flatly. "He didn't want me here, so he lied to me about when you were leaving, and then lied to you about me changing my mind. Remember when you told me he
never lies? That is so not true."
"He normally never does," said Isabelle, who had gone rather pale. "Look, did you come here—I mean, does this have something to do with Simon?"
"With Simon? No. Simon's safe in New York, thank God. Although he's going to be really pissed that he never got to say good-bye to me." Isabelle's blank expression was starting to annoy Clary. "Come on, Isabelle. Let me in. I need to see Jace."
"So . . . you just came here on your own? Did you have permission from the Clave? Please tell me you had permission from the Clave."
"Not as such—"
"You broke the Law?" Isabelle's voice rose, then dropped. She went on, almost in a whisper, "If Jace finds out, he'll freak. Clary, you've got to go home."
"No. I'm supposed to be here," Clary said, not even sure herself quite where her stubbornness was coming from. "And I need to talk to Jace."
"Now isn't a good time." Isabelle looked around anxiously, as if hoping there was someone she could appeal to for help in removing Clary from the premises. "Please, just go back to New York. Please?"
"I thought you liked me, Izzy." Clary went for the guilt.
Isabelle bit her lip. She was wearing a white dress and had her hair pinned up and looked younger than she usually did. Behind her Clary could see a high-ceilinged entryway hung with antique-looking oil paintings. "I do like you. It's just that Jace—oh my God, what are you wearing? Where did you get fighting gear?"
Clary looked down at herself. "It's a long story."
"You can't come in here like that. If Jace sees you—"
"Oh, so what if he sees me. Isabelle, I came here because of my mother—for my mother. Jace may not want me here, but he can't make me stay home. I'm supposed to be here. My mother expected me to do this for her. You'd do it for your mother, wouldn't you?"
"Of course I would," Isabelle said. "But Clary, Jace has his reasons—"
"Then I'd love to hear what they are." Clary ducked under Isabelle's arm and into the entryway of the house.
"Clary!" Isabelle yelped, and darted after her, but Clary was already halfway down the hall. She saw, with the half of her mind that wasn't concentrating on dodging Isabelle, that
the house was built like Amatis's, tall and thin, but considerably larger and more richly decorated. The hallway opened into a room with high windows that looked out over a wide canal. White boats plied the water, their sails drifting by like dandelion clocks tossed on the wind. A dark-haired boy sat on a couch by one of the windows, apparently reading a book.
"Sebastian!" Isabelle called. "Don't let her go upstairs!"
The boy looked up, startled—and a moment later was in front of Clary, blocking her path to the stairs. Clary skidded to a halt—she'd never seen anyone move that fast before, except
Jace. The boy wasn't even out of breath; in fact, he was smiling at her.
"So this is the famous Clary." His smile lit up his face, and Clary felt her breath catch. For years she'd drawn her own ongoing graphic story—the tale of a king's son who was under a
curse that meant that everyone he loved would die. She'd put everything she had into dreaming up her dark, romantic, shadowy prince, and here he was, standing in front of her—the same pale skin, the same tumbling black hair, and eyes so dark,
the pupils seemed to meld with the rest of the iris. The same high cheekbones and deep-set, shadowed eyes fringed with long lashes.
The boy looked puzzled. "I don't think—have we met before?"
Speechless, Clary shook her head.
"Sebastian!" Isabelle's hair had come out of its pins and hung down over her shoulders, and she was glaring. "Don't be nice to her. She's not supposed to be here. Clary, go home."
With an effort, Clary wrenched her gaze away from Sebastian and shot a glare at Isabelle. "What, back to New York? And how am I supposed to get there?"
"How did you get here?" Sebastian inquired. "Sneaking into Alicante is quite an accomplishment."
"I came through a Portal," said Clary.
"A Portal?" Isabelle looked astonished. "But there isn't a Portal left in New York. Valentine destroyed them both—"
"I don't owe you any explanations," Clary said. "Not until you give me some. For one thing, where's Jace?"
"He's not here," Isabelle answered, at exactly the same time that Sebastian said, "He's upstairs."
Isabelle turned on him. "Sebastian! Shut up."
Sebastian looked perplexed. "But she's his sister. Wouldn't he want to see her?"
Isabelle opened her mouth and then shut it again. Clary could see that Isabelle was weighing the advisability of explaining her complicated relationship with Jace to the completely oblivious Sebastian against the advisability of springing an unpleasant surprise on Jace. Finally she threw her hands up in a gesture of despair. "Fine, Clary," she said, with an unusual— for Isabelle—amount of anger in her voice. "Go ahead and do whatever you want, regardless of who it hurts. You always do anyway, don't you?"
Ouch. Clary shot Isabelle a reproachful look before turning back to Sebastian, who stepped silently out of her way. She darted past him and up the stairs, vaguely aware of voices
below her as Isabelle shouted at the unfortunate Sebastian. But that was Isabelle—if there was a boy around and blame that needed to be pinned on someone, Isabelle would pin it on him.
The staircase widened into a landing with a bay-windowed alcove that looked out over the city. A boy was sitting in the alcove, reading. He looked up as Clary came up the stairs, and blinked in surprise. "I know you."
"Hi, Max. It's Clary—Jace's sister. Remember?"
Max brightened. "You showed me how to read Naruto," he said, holding out his book to her. "Look, I got another one. This one's called—"
"Max, I can't talk now. I promise I'll look at your book later, but do you know where Jace is?"
Max's face fell. "That room," he said, and pointed to the last door down the hall. "I wanted to go in there with him, but he told me he had to do grown-up stuff. Everyone's always telling me that."
"I'm sorry," Clary said, but her mind was no longer on the conversation. It was racing ahead—what would she say to Jace when she saw him, what would he say to her? Moving down the hall to the door, she thought, It would be better to be friendly, not angry; yelling at him will just make him defensive. He has to understand that I belong here, just like he does. I don't need to be protected like a piece of delicate china. I'm strong too—
She threw the door open. It was dim in the room beyond, the only light coming from a window half-covered by curtains.
Clary blinked her eyes for a moment, wondering if Max had sent her to the wrong door. Then her eyes adjusted, and she saw Jace standing in the middle of the room. He wasn't alone,
though—not by a long shot. There was a dark-haired girl with him, a girl Clary had never seen before, and the two of them were locked together in a passionate embrace.


*TWITCHES* HOLY *SCREAMS EVERY SWEAR WORd KNOWN TO MAN KIND* Can I kill this dark haired girl????!!!! I shall murder like it's the witch trials again!!!!! *Breathes in* A lot to take in but as many people on GOOGLE groups, I hat eJace a little right now..... And we get to find out what's upstairs, haha! Jace and another girl embracing each other. It's probably some long time friend or something or maybe a past girl he used to be with. We shall see.

UGH! Firstly, I really want to kill Jace after reading that. Who the heck is he "passionately embracing" with? Nooo! This is just unacceptable. Is there any way we could get the book before March? *sigh* There's no way I'm going to be able to wait until March for this.

Second, this cookie did nothing to help my resolve. I've not been able to read the books for a while because of school destroying me, so I might have to really work to make time to be able to re-read CoB and CoA. Oh, my God. <3

Anywayyy...If Jace is dating this girl or something, I don't care if Sebastian and Clary get together (though hopefully Jace will come to his senses and realize that he and Clary are perfect for each other. Now I have Realize by Colbie Caillat stuck in my head!) If Jace and Miss Dark Hair are going out, CLARY AND SEBASTIAN SHOULD GET TOGETHER. To make Jace jealous. You know. Make him overcome his sheer stupidity.

But, of course, of it at any one point has a C/S ship, it better go back to a C/J ship. I'll be ok with a C/S as long as it ends up C/J.

Wait. Then there is what Alaska pointed out, about the king's son falling in love and people dying and stuff. Great. Well, let's just hope that doesn't happen...

Like Cinnamonxox said Clary and Sebastian totally need to hook up now. There is now no more feeling sorry for Jace because Clary will be with Sebastian.
I find it funny that when i knew that Clary was going to be with Sebastian for a bit i didn't feel as bad as i do now, with Jace and this Dark haired girl. It just comes as a complete shock to me, i didn't even think of Jace being with anyone else but Clary. I guess i shouldn't really complain because now they both have some one else...*sniff*

Well at first I was like 'OMG WTF JACE!!' but the more I thought about it the more I think it might be possible that he could be 'seducing' who ever this girl is for information or something. Or maybe she has some sort of information that he needs and the only way she'd agree to give it to him is if he kissed her, sort of like the whole matrix scene when the chick is like 'kiss me like you would kiss her and I'll take you to the key maker'

Because well I don't see Isabelle caring all that much about Clary seeing Jace with someone else - so I think there was something else going on that Isabelle didn't want Clary to interrupt, something probably pretty important. Because, well no offense to Isabelle, but she isn't exactly the type to care about Clary's feelings, especially when it comes to Jace. Since she wasn't and hasn't ever been the biggest supporter of the twos relationship.

Plus the scene that we got from later in the book Jace and Clary are fine, and well I don't really see her just forgiving him if there wasn't some sort of an explanation to it all. Or our worst fears have come true and they've both decided to 'just be brother and sister' which I'm hoping for the first theory - since I will be crushed if they just decide to be happily related and that's it.

I'm still holding out hope that there's some sort of explanation behind it all and it's not really what it looks like.

*edit* OMG theory just popped into my head right after posting - what if it's the Fairy Queen in disguise, because she obviously knows the feelings between the two. And what if Jace needs something from her, like to find out what she meant about asking Valentine 'who's blood runs through your veins' and the only way she will tell him is if he kisses her like he did Clary in the court :nods: I could totally see her doing something twisted like that - sort of like what she did to them to free Clary.

Not likely to happen. The Queen only plays games if they are in her own courtroom. And besides, this is ALICANTE. As in, no Downworlders. Not even disguised Fearie Queens.

But yeah, you're right. There must be some hidden reason. Though I still think it would have been one hell of a situation if Clary came in on Jace and Alec kissing. XD. You know in the earlier cookie where Jace was like "You don't love me. aAnd I'll prove it. Kiss me now."

XD. I know I know, Impossible. But you have to admit, that would be one crazy wild scenerio.

Ooh, yeah. I was thinking about Clary possibly dying as well when I read the "everyone he loved dies." That would be horrible. =( Then, as many people have pointed out, there could be no Jace/Clary! *cries* That would be awful. No way.

I was thinking about this today - more rationally, after I got over the "OMG JACE WTF ARE YOU DOING?!" phase - and I was thinking that this really isn't the type of thing Jace would normally do, right? From what we know of him, sure, he likes to flirt excessively with girls, but does he really fool around with them for no reason? I don't think so. Like Maia describes in CoA, "Most boys look at you like they want sex. Jace looks at you like you've already had sex, are now just friends, even though you want more." No one really says that Jace is a womanizer, which is making me doubt that scene. There has to be ulterior motives. Like Kaylee suggested, maybe it's just for info. Maybe he's never liked a girl as much as he likes (loves) Clary, and he needs to get his mind off of her, since they've agreed (since the end of CoA) to just be brother and sister, so he needed another girl. (Bad reason, I know, but ... it's possible.) Jace doesn't show emotion well, so he wouldn't be talking to anyone about how he feels about Clary. He probably thinks it's easier to do something physical to take his mind off everything. Who knows. But I'm convinced there is a reason Jace was kissing that girl in his room - and a very good reason at that.

Whatever she is (and yes i said what not who because whoever gets bewteen jace and clary is a thing not a person lol) is something thats not that important because in other cookies they seem fine besides the fact of what jace said to her. And she doesnt seem mad about any girl and all the other cookies of jace and clary and after This one so.....yeah. lol

The girl Jace is kissing is Alinne (sp?) she is a new character to city of glass. She lives at the place where Jace and the Lightwoods are staying.

Jace is a player, the type that, yes he'd be upset and hurt and the type to use his looks and seduction to get information he wants because, y'know, he's just that hawt or something.

If they pull an Avatar and have this 'girl' end up being some ex from Jace's past or something (doubtful, considering Jace's view on love and his extreme independence) like Zuko and Mai, I'll kill them. I'll go into the book and just kick some ass or something.

I bet Clary will either walk away silently, and Jace will not notice her, or, Jace will see her as she runs away. Maybe the girl will turn around and see Clary staring at them?

Maybe Jace is just trying to get over Clary? Well, then again, I doubt that one!

So many possiblities! I hope Clary eventually gets mad at that dark haired girl, unless Jace has a really good reason about this whole situation.
