| Here is the synopsis that I knicked from Barnes and Nobles website - | Quote: | Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.
Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love. |
I finished it yesterday and I still can't get this book out of my head. It is one of the most interesting stories I've read in awhile. It kept me reading for a good 12 hours straight, and that was me taking my time. If you enjoy the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer you will love this book as well.
I'm not going to dive to much into my thoughts yet as I know everyone else probably hasn't finished or come close to finishing this book yet. After all, not everyone can ignore sleeping for days like I can |

| I personally HATED Jared - and Kyle - eventually I came around to liking Jared (at the very end) but up until that point I didn't trust him ever to not kill Wanderer when he was around her.
This sums up my feelings on the two main guys in the book:

And am I the only one who SO wanted a Jamie of my own? I have older brothers and I CAN'T stand them most of the time. But when I was reading I found myself wanting a little brother just like Jamie. He was made of win. I think outside of Ian, Wanderer and Jeb, Jamie was my favorite character.
Now the real question - did anyone almost feel like the 'bond' between Jared and Melanie was pretty much superficial? And am I the only one who just did NOT like Melanie - like I was almost happy when Wanderer thought she was gone *shrugs* |

| I didn't like Jared... I heart Ian though! He was so sweet and so... AMAZING! I started crying when Wanda was like "I have to go".... And yes.... Melanie and Jared did seem a bit superficial... I don't doubt that they love each other, but to me it just felt like they thought they... owned one another... Very strange. |

| I see Melanie and Jared's relationship as one of war and convenience. If circumstances were normal and aliens hadn't come and the threat of being taken/found any day, I don't think that they would have ended up together. I do think that they love each other, it's just how that love was born.
The love between Wanda and Ian developed under better circumstances. There was still a threat, but there was a much better sense of security and I think those two were meant for each other even if circumstances were different. Although, if circumstances were different, Ian and Wanda probably wouldn't have met. |

| I liked Melanie, when Ian and Jared weren't involved. She was great, unless she was being all, "EW, Ian," or "Ohmigoooossshhhh, Jared." Basically she was amazing when she wasn't complicating things....which was fairly often. -nod- |

| I did really enjoy the dialogue between Melanie and Wanda. It was like having two main characters in one. This was one of the aspects of the book that I liked the most. I just didn't like Melanie and Jared's relationship. So I'm in agreement with you that Melanie wasn't too bad when Ian or Jared was around. |

| I thought it was uber sweet of Mel when she like... Disappeared so Wanda and Ian could be alone... She had kinda gotten on my nerves before that, but when she did that I was like "Mel isn't that bad..." I have to admit that Mel's reactions to the things Wanda did was sometimes funny... But I have to agree. She was totally bearable whenever Jared and/or Ian weren't around. |

| I didn't like Jared or Mel, they were kinda selfish people to me, when I read the host. I more like Wanderer and Ian, those two are awesome, and also Jamie is like the little brother everybody wants |

| Selfish is a good way of putting it. Although, Wanda did steal Mel's life away from her. For awhile, it was really anger towards Wanda that Jared showed. I think he had every right to be angry. Once Jared learned that Wanda was a good person, he began to change his attitude towards Wanda.
I just loved the character dynamics in this book. |

| When we saw Jared through Mel's memories I kinda really liked him. But as soon as she came ten metres within him I knew he was trouble and I got really mad when Wanda didin't notice that. And for a long while Jareds attitude really bugged me. Yes, it ws resonable that he was on an endge but he was cutting it way too far. Jamie..... The thing is..... he made me realize I have my own Jamie. Because I completly ignored his descrption and went on by my own. He is this cute as heck kid who I have known for a while. Cause I go to Russian school on Saturdays, we hold Christmas plays, and I met him like..... three four years back. Anyway, he is three years younger than me and he is like a best friend but I feel a lot like a mother around him. I love him so much. But like I said, not a lover way, like a mother way. And so my little Pete [russian name, shut up] was the exact parallel of the Jamie in the book. So it was totally neato for me. I loved Wanda. But sometimes she made me kinda mad... And I was on edge around Doc for the longest time. But Ian I warmed up to really quickly. | Spoiler: | | | I actually really didn't like Wanda's new body at the end. |
I don't know.... But I really didn't. The smallness of it and the "manicure" and everything..... I just didn't like it. But whatever. It was good because she could be with Ian. All in all I loved the Host. At first I was iffy for like, 200 pages but whithin 400 I was clicking. I recomend for sure. |
