Okay i thought i should ask. Has anyone noticed that Jace and Clary have matching star-shaped scars on their shoulders? here are the quotes...

City of Bones Pg.314 "[Clary] pulled the strap of her tank top aside slightly, showing the star-shaped white mark at the top of her shoulder."

City of Ashes Pg.181 "[Clary] couldn't meet [Jace's] eyes so instead she fixed her gaze on the thin star-shaped scars on his right shoulder..."

But my question is what does that mean?? Anyways just want to hear what you think.

This could mean that this is the sign that very well shows that Valentine did expiriments on them. That his strange expiriments left markings. This could be a sign that maybe they AREN'T related. I cannot belive you noticed something like that! Though of course... the fact that only very few of us notiecd that could mean that it actually does mean nothing. I mean... if nobody ever pointed it out before than maybe it's not that important.

Oh my! Everyone knew about Jace's scar, but I hadn't realized Clary had one like it also! I'm trying to re read book one so maybe I'll see it now.

Oh yay, I thought I was the only one who noticed that. YAY I'm not alone. I feel like I was on a deserted island and just found out someone was living on the other side.

Yeah i found it one day a couple months ago when i was going through City of Bones and it just sort of hit me and im glad i wasnt the only one to notice it either i just thought i should post it here because my friends and i have run out of theories

Personally i think its the mark left over from the experiments Valentine did on them but then there is always the question ...How did valentine get to Clary to create that scar because he said he didnt even know Jocelyn was pregnant when she left so he never could have scarred Clary.

Have any of you heard of the old Polio vaccience? A lot of people in their 40's now have a round scar on thier arm from getting the polio vaccien, because the needles were so big. So maybe they are from the "experements" Valentine supossedly did on them. Of it's compleatly couincidental (srry my spelling sucks!)

I think the marks personally have something to do with their abilities and not so much on the experiments. Since after all Valentine couldn't have done any on Clary, so it obviously has to be something else.

Maybe when we get to Idris a prophecy will be revealed and it will give us all the information we've been wanting so desperately. I mean, other than love because 'they are' his children, there has to be some other reason why Valentine hasn't killed Jace or Clary at this point. Plus he was trying mighty hard to get Jace on his side in both books so far, and I don't think it's just because Jace is his son.

At this point my theory is that they are closer descendants of angels than any shadow hunters before. And maybe that's what the Inquisitor told Jace before she died. I mean his scar made her react for a reason. I still think the theory could be true that he is actually the Inquisitors sons child, but I'm not really sure why the scar would suddenly trigger her to think so - or she could have thought the same thing about Clary and her scar.

Perhaps it has something to do with that certain power that it represents?
I know I mentioned it before, but I think I got bowled over (lol) that the star was also the shape of the symbol of the Morgenstern family line. In City of Ashes, when Clary and company go down to see Jace, Clary notices this-and I remember looking at that and going "OH HO HOOOOO"

This could mean a multitude of things, but perhaps also it could be something in the same guise as say.. Voldemort's pursuit of Evil.

For instance, say these stars are linked with a power or ability pertaining to some sort of prophesy. The Morgenstern line is connected with this somehow and that is their symbol. Valentine could NOT be a bloodline Morgenstern, but still be chasing after the power. He has the talent and the ambition, but perhaps the missing pieces. Kay's right, he could kill Jace and Clary at any time-he's had the opportunity, but not of he needs them y'know?

Much like how Voldemort needed those Horcrux whatevers to split his soul and create his immortality. Perhaps Valentine's tests were only involved as far as seeking these children out (primarily Jace) and taking them under his wing because they showed potential. obviously Jace learned a few things before Valentine "died" or whatever happened.

If I was a demented shadow hunter supervillian that knew of a prophesy like that, I'd seek out the kids with the power and try to groom them that they might be loyal to me instead of getting those pesky minds of their own and fighting against me.

A bit rambling, but I hope that makes sense.

What the hell kind of a Nickname is "Jace" for someone who's name is "Johnathan'?

Alright, so when I read that they both have star-shaped scars, I immediately thought of Romeo and Juliet:
star-crossed lovers.
But of course I don't what them to die like Romeo and Juliet!
I'm not quite sure what they symbolize. Most likely the experiments, of course, but there is the reaction of whatshername, the Inquisitor, to consider. I am wondering if maybe the Clave gave them the scars. How would the Inquisitor know otherwise? hmmmmmm. I just don't know.
